Grand Jury Welcome

Judge King

Hello, and welcome to the Williamson County Grand Jury webpage. I am Donna King, Judge of the 26th Judicial District Court, convening the July term of the Williamson County Grand Jury. Thank you for following the instructions on your summons and taking the first step toward completing your jury service. This webpage will give you basic information and direct you in completing the initial steps of the empaneling process from the comfort of your home!

You, along with other Williamson County residents, have been randomly selected to be considered to serve as potential members of the Williamson County Grand Jury, July 2020 term. The grand jury, which dates back to 12th Century England, is enshrined in the United States and Texas Constitutions as a safeguard against unwarranted prosecution and is convened to evaluate evidence and decide whether or not persons should be formally accused of felony crimes. As most felony prosecutions hinge on this determination, grand jurors are vital to the criminal justice system. Your selection as a potential grand juror and participation in this process is critical to the operations of our justice system in Williamson County.

We are very sensitive to the health concerns created by the COVID-19 pandemic, and have coordinated closely with the Williamson County Local Health Authority. To protect the health and welfare of all participants, we have modified the grand jury process to reduce unnecessary in-person contact. By using technology – this webpage and the electronic questionnaire below - we have eliminated the large, in-person gatherings normally required for selection of a grand jury. The questionnaire allows you to communicate with the Court concerning your qualifications for service without appearing in person for this initial step. Thereafter, your appearance will only be required if necessary. Accommodations will be made to observe hygiene and social distancing practices.

Thank you for taking the time to fulfill your civic duty. As you proceed to the questionnaire, carefully select your answers to ensure that you meet the criteria for service. You will be required to affirm that the answers are true and correct. If you are qualified to serve but also meet one or more of the statutory exemptions to be excused from service, you may exercise the excuse, but are not required to do so. If there is any other reason you would like to be excused from service, please so indicate in the appropriate box. Your reason will be reviewed, and you will be notified of the Court’s decision concerning your request. If you have a conflict with 3 or more of the dates listed, please so indicate. You will be advised by email and/or telephone call whether or not your appearance is required. If you are required to appear, you will be given a specific appointment date and time. You will report to the Williamson County Justice Center located at 405 M.L.K. Blvd, Georgetown 78626. Should you have any questions, please contact the District Clerk’s Office at 512-943-1212. You may now proceed to fill out the Grand Jury Questionnaire

Stay safe and well,

Donna King
