Cite and Release

A police officer has an option of issuing a citation for a person to appear before a magistrate at a later date, rather than arresting someone or taking them to jail for several Class A and B misdemeanors. Among those misdemeanors are driving without a valid license or possessing less than two ounces of marijuana. An officer can always take someone to jail if they believe an offense has been committed.

If a person is cited to appear at the Williamson County Justice Center before the Magistrate Court:

Upon appearance before the magistrate the defendant will be in the custody of the Williamson County Sheriff. The defendant will be booked and fingerprinted at the Williamson County Justice Center instead of jail. The defendant will be asked to pay a personal recognizance bond fee before the he/she is released. The fee may run from $40 to $100 depending on the charge(s) and set bond.

All major credit cards are accepted on-site at the Justice Center. Credit card processing fees apply. Cash and personal checks will not be accepted. Money orders and cashier’s checks are accepted at 306 West 4th, Georgetown, Texas 78628 on your court date and must reflect the exact bond fee.
