The Veterans Service Office provides eligible veterans, dependants and survivors direct and general support and assistance in obtaining all benefits to which they are entitled from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, state of Texas and Williamson County.

2016 MEMORIAL WEEKEND EVENTS

Saturday, May 28, 2016 Events in surrounding areas:

39th Annual Daisy 5k Run at Camp Mabry.  6:30 a.m. registration. Saturday, May 28. Hosted by Austin Runners Club. Kick off your Memorial Day weekend with Austin's oldest 5k! This year, we've added a new cross country style team challenge. Grab some friends and family and join the fun! Net proceeds of the Daisy 5k will benefit Marathon Kids. 5th Annual Military Appreciation BBQ at Reunion Ranch, Georgetown. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. We would like to honor all our military heroes and their families with our 5th Annual Military Appreciation BBQ. This wonderful FREE event will be held Saturday, May 28, 2016, from 11a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Reunion Ranch Campgrounds in Georgetown. Texas Ruckfest ~ Austin to Round Rock! 7 a.m. Saturday, May 28.  Texas State Cemetery to the Texas State Capitol to the Round Rock American Legion Post #447. Raising the awareness that we still remember the fallen, the Ruckfest is a 22-mile ruck march. Complete all or some, then join the festivities, live music and BBQ for all participants.

Memorial Day Band Concert at Veterans Memorial Plaza. 7 p.m. Sunday, May 29. The 36th Infantry Division Band from Camp Mabry in Austin will perform with a variety of big band sound and patriotic “flag waving” tunes at the Georgetown-Williamson County Veterans Memorial Plaza, 2 Texas Drive in Sun City, Georgetown, TX 78633. Free and open to public. 

Memorial Walk Ceremony. 10 a.m. Sunday, May 29.  22K Memorial Walk to honor our Fallen Military Law Enforcement and First Responders this Memorial Day by walking up to 22K with other patriots from the community to reflect on the sacrifices made for our liberties and our freedoms. Sunday, May 30, 2016 Memorial Day Events:

Memorial Day Ceremony.  11 a.m. Round Rock Memorial Park, 600 N. Lee St., Round Rock, TX.  Hosted by The United State Submarine Veterans. Ceremony will feature the posting of the colors by the Young Marines of Chisholm Trail Middle School and the tolling of a bell for the crew members and ships lost in battle. University of Texas Naval Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) Commanding Officer Cpt. Mike Spence will give the keynote address. 

Memorial Day Service. 10 a.m. Monday. Sponsored by the Thankful Hubbard Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution and the Patrick Henry Chapter of Sons of the American Revolution. Ceremony features Sons of American Revolution members in Revolutionary War dress and keynote speaker Sgt. John Boerstler. Texas State Cemetery, 909 Navasota St., Austin, TX. 512-845-0155. 

Killeen Memorial Day Service. 11 a.m. Monday. Hosted by the City of Killeen and VFW Post 9192, features guest speaker Lt. Gen. Donald Campbell. Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 Texas 195, Killeen. www.ci.killeen.tx.us.

Memorial Day Celebration at Sun City Veterans Memorial Plaza. 9:30 a.m. Monday.  The annual Memorial Day Ceremony honoring the men and women of our armed forces who have given their lives in service to our country will be held at the Veterans Memorial Plaza, 2 Texas Drive, Sun City, TX, on Monday, May 30. Texas Governor Greg Abbott will be the guest speaker for the ceremony and music will be provided by the 36th Infantry Division Band of the Texas Army National Guard. Free and open to public.
